Can You Juggle? (Hint: Yes, You Can)

Do you know how to juggle?

As a guidance counselor, one of the things I've done with students is teach them how to juggle.

First question I ask: what's the difference between juggling and riding a bike?

Answer: juggling is easier.

Think about it. If you mess up riding a bike, down you go. If you mess up juggling, some balls fall on the floor. Big deal!

Bike riding requires some pretty advanced mechanical apparatus. Juggling requires three things that can fit in your hands...tennis balls or rolled up socks ought to do the trick.

Bike riding is total body coordination. Juggling is just hand-eye.

So how come almost everyone can ride a bike and few can juggle?

Answer: belief. You were told that juggling was hard and you believed it.

If you have normal hand-eye coordination I can teach you to juggle in less than half and hour...

...if you believe you can.

I've tested this with all different kinds of students for the past ten years. The ones who were the most successful were those who had high achievement, who had a belief system that said they are SUPPOSED to achieve and do well.

The worst: those who consistently got the message that they can't do new things, that they are screw ups, that they won't amount to anything.

Sometimes they got this message from the school, but I think it started way back when they were little. They believed it, and they unconsciously chose actions that reinforced their self-perception as a loser.

When I taught an alternative education class for troubled high school students we spent two weeks on juggling. Most of them were willing to try. Those who did all got it eventually. The others resisted with all their might. Guess who eventually graduated from high school?

If you believe you are supposed to fail, supposed to be in debt, supposed to be incompetent, you will manifest that reality. If you believe you are supposed to be poor, you will find a way to make it happen.

The same thing happens in reverse. If you BELIEVE you can do something, you will structure your life and your choices around that belief. It will eventually happen. If you BELIEVE you are supposed to be prosperous, abundant and happy the same thing will happen. You will make choices that conform to your belief system.

You BECOME your beliefs. But you will have to restructure your daily existence.

What will Your Organization Do When They Find Out How Competent They Are?

And what happens after they experience a day of outrageous fun that starts them on a journey to real empowerment?

Dear Friend,

What happens when you get set free?

What happens when you get set free from your self-limiting beliefs and assumptions?

Think for a second. We all have deeply held beliefs about what we are and aren't capable of doing, achieving and becoming.

They shape how we behave, how we perform, how we interact with friends, loved ones, business associates and the general public.

They shape our view of the world and what we bring to our organization.

They're shaping what your co-workers and colleagues bring to your organization right now.

What will happen when the glass ceiling of false assumptions is shattered?

You better ask yourself that question right now. Start dreaming, because those beliefs are about to be blown apart....

in the strangest of ways...by
juggling.

JUGGLE TO SUCCESS!

Let's back up twenty or so years. I broke my own paradigm about what was possible for me when I managed to keep three tennis balls suspended in the air.

Very cool.

But here's the amazing thing...I have spent the better part of the past 14 years doing the same for others.

Quietly, many folks are walking around right now with a little spring in their step. Some have gone onto positions of enormous responsibility and prestige. Some have impacted their colleagues and organizations, inspiring them to levels of achievement they've never imagined before.

Some are simply walking around as happier, peaceful people who touch others with their quiet confidence.

Maybe you met one today?

Let me ask you again... how would you like to be person responsible for creating an army of these quiet (and not so quiet) achievers?

Would you believe I've got the wildest, most entertaining and most awesome, time and resource efficient way to make that happen?

That's right...Juggling

A WORKSHOP IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE BENEFITS IT BRINGS TO THE PARTICIPANTS AND THE ORGANIZATION!

Let's talk reality here...there are many personal and professional development seminars out there. Some of them are quite good...in fact some are outstanding. They involve the audience on a practical and emotional level.

And frankly, there are a bunch of duds.

Just like me, you've sat through both types. And some of these programs were excellent...for the couple of people in the room who were already engaged and ready to hear the presenter.

What if there was something that could reach everyone? (and I mean EVERYONE!)

Those who were ready to learn grow and contribute...

and those who are on the fence - good people with potential for leadership and performance but needing something to get them over the hump...

and the duds who are ready to be entertained and (maybe) have a spark lit underneath their underachieving behinds?

"And how do we do all of this" you ask?

That's right...Juggling

What if I told you that a wild presentation that directly involved the participants in healthy risk-taking, self confidence, team building, consciousness raising and paradigm changing was sitting right in your lap, waiting to be delivered by a master trainer?

What if I told you that it was cleverly disguised as a workshop entitled

JUGGLE TO SUCCESS!

Well, hang onto your hats, because it is...and I've got it.

For 90 minutes, or half a day or even a weekend retreat, your team will build their skills in juggling after a death-defying, side splittingly hilarious presentation.

(OK, maybe not death-defying).

But then after the hysterics, we'll deconstruct the juggling process and directly relate it to how they've missed opportunities for personal growth and organizational achievement.

We all discuss the need for desire and commitment to the organization and to oneself. We all go deep into personal goals, values and mission.

(Be warned...this can be emotional for some. Especially when they realize how much they've been existing with a lack of these things not truly living.)

Then we'll create a fun, safe and supportive environment where people will test themselves, do what they thought they couldn't...

and begin juggling - to the wild applause of their own colleagues.

And all of a sudden, you'll have a roomful of believers. Believers in themselves, in their own abilities, in their own capacity for growth, and (maybe most amazingly) belief in each other.

JUGGLE TO SUCCESS!

Too good to be true? From a simple workshop about juggling?

Yeah, I understand the skepticism. If I hadn't already done it myself, I might be a little skeptical too.

But I know...I lived it. Then I taught others how to live it.

Then I taught others to teach others.

And now it's YOUR turn to create that magic for your colleagues and your group.

P.S.: Curious? Better hurry! The word is starting to get out on Juggle To Success No telling when this thing will go out of control. Get in while the gettin's good!

P.S.S.: DON'T BRING HTJ INTO YOUR ORGANIZATION IF...

You don't want inspired, happy confident people in your workspace.

You don't want productivity, sales, and client numbers going up.

You don't want to create a group of people who become mentors and becoming receptive to being mentored.

You don't want to create an environment of support, healthy risk taking and creative problem solving.

You don't want people focused on what they can do, rather than what they can't do.

You don't want people who challenge the boundaries of achievement.

You don't want people who love coming to work each day.

You don't want people who like and support each other.

You don't want people who create new paradigms when the old ones no longer serve.

Hi Larry,

I recently attended your "How to Juggle" session at the Young Educator's Society Conference at Eastern Connecticut University. Shortly after this conference I found out that was being considered for the Montville High School's chapter of the National Honor Society. I had to fill out an application of all of my services and interests and I had to write an essay.I was having a very difficult time starting the essay because I never really had to write an essay all about me, then it came to me. I started it off with the conference I attended and your session because you instilled in me something that I have been driving at for quite some time.I brought up how the activity was based on building confidence in yourself and in others. I personally want to be a special education teacher and that is what I plan to go to college for and those kids need as much confidence as you can give them.

I found you to be very inspiring in a few perspectives. In one way you showed me a way to instill confidence in others, which I am going to take with me into the future and also you instilled confidence in myself.

So in the end I am writing because today I received my congratulatory acceptance letter from the National Honor Society. Thank you for everything!

Loved it! Thank you. A new way to hear a familiar message, but it helped me make links to concepts in a way I never have before.

Your sense of humor, ability to engage everyone and patience certainly paid off. We enjoyed watching the wonderful smiles on the children's faces as they took a healthy risk and let a group of adults watch them perform a brand new skill. Thank you for your excellent presentation. It was just what we needed.

~ Laura Minor, Community Wellness Coalition, Bristol, CT
